Course Goals
- prepare for study abroad and conduct advanced research
- read texts in the area of study and develop own glossary
- write an academic essay or develop a project in the target language
- listen to the academic speech, take notes, and ask questions
- present professionally in the target language
Participation
Class Attendance
In this class we use mainly flip teaching and just in time teaching strategies.You are expected to present in the class and participate in the class activities.
Class Discussions
Each week selected videos will be watched before coming to the class. In the class we will have discussions about the video. You should read an article, open ended question about the article, and prepare for the discussion.

Assignments
1. Video transcriptions
After reading a video transcription and comparing it with the English translation activities, you will find a similar video in Turkish and write a transcript of it. The videos should be at least 1 minute long and transcript must have at least 300 words.
2. Resource Bank/Summaries
Each week you will post top 3 resources (article or news) that you have found online. You will describe briefly what the resource is about and why it is good to use.
3. Reflective Writing
Once a week you will post on Oncourse forum and reflect on your learning process (at least 250 words). This can be a personal blog too. You can also create a video blog if you wish.

3. E-Portfolio
You may want to create an e-portfolo as a project. This is a two step project. First, you will need to create a content for your portfolio. Then, revise it with a help of your instructor and conversation partner. Please contact your instructor after your content is ready. Your instructor will demonstrate how to create portfolios using online templates.

Terminology Glossary
During the semester you will develop a glossary of articles that you submit on weekly basis to your instructor. At the end of semester, you will combine this glossary and have your own terminology glossary. This glossary should include vocabulary used in your final project too.
Technology Use
You are encouraged use Power Point, Prezi, or other presentation tools to create your final presentations. You can also create an online glossary or other interactive material (online flashcards, audio glossary, video glossary) using mobile technology. Your instructor will assist you in creating these projects.

Prerequisites
At least three semesters of Turkish or Intermediate to Advanced level in Turkish.
